On Saturday, the Armorbearers will host the Battle of the Forces event. Meet Jack Walker, a Mississippi Army National Guard veteran and Purple Heart recipient. He’s an incomplete quadriplegic left leg amputee. “I was blessed to come home to my family. There’s many soldiers that weren’t able to come home to their families.” In April 2018, Walker’s house was destroyed by fire. Cheryl Bruce with the Wounded Warriors of Mississippi got in touch with the Armorbearers and the Battle of the Forces event was created. “I was devastated when my house caught fire, but at the same time, I was extremely blessed,” said Walker. “Ron jumped on board and said hey, let’s partner up and let’s do this and get Jack a house built.” The Battle of the Forces event includes a softball tournament between first responders and military personnel. At noon, there will be a celebrity game. “We are going to find out if some of these veterans can still play ball. It’s all for a good cause. It’s going to be a beautiful day for a beautiful person in Jack Walker,” said Bruce. Tickets are $20 at the gate. There will also be raffle prizes. Proceeds will go towards Jack’s new home and helping disabled veterans. “It’s heartwarming for us to be able to do this for one of our veterans.” “There’s plenty of guys that deserves this plus some. I am honored and blessed to receive this.”
