Concert to commemorate William Carey’s recovery after tornado

It’s been a long road of rebuilding and recovery for William Carey University. It’s been more than two years since a tornado ripped through the Hattiesburg campus, home to more than 4,000 students. The tornado occurred January 21st, 2017, damaging all but one building and forcing the demolition of six buildings. Seven students were injured that day. No one died. In two weeks, William Carey University will be celebrating life in commemoration of that fateful day some refer to as a miracle considering there was no loss of life. The public is invited to this free community concert, a special performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s ‘Hymn of Praise.’ The concert takes place Tuesday, March 5th at the Thomas Fine Arts Center in Hattiesburg. University leaders say the concert is being held “in praise of God for our recovery.”
